MoR #9 is coming up

posted by Carl Mercier

After a little break, MoR is coming back! The next event will be held on May 20. Wanna come? Please RSVP.

This month, we’re trying a different format: less talk, more booze (this could be dangerous).

We’ll start with a presentation by Francois Beausoleil entitled “Refactoring to Patterns: How Mephisto went from a single engine Lada to a multi-engine jet fighter”. Francois said he’ll need a few volunteers to help out.

Then, instead of the usual pizza and more talks, we’ll all go grab a bite and drink a cold one somewhere. This is your chance to talk Ruby with other nerds.

So the question is, where should we go eat? I don’t know Montreal very well so I need your help on this one. Please comment with your suggestions. cheers!

I was hoping for a place when they serve food, not just booze and nachos…

In case you haven’t decided on a place yet, nearby there is:

    Two restos with bars:
Shed Cafe (good food, good prices considering the location, lounge-like atmosphere)
    Copacabana (Indian, http://www.montrealmirror.com/ARCHIVES/2002/061302/resto.html)

    Traditional restos:
    Eduardo (Italian, BYOW, family-style restaurant)
Chu Chai (Thai, BYOW, vegetarian, can make tofu taste like anything)
    L’Academie (European, BYOW)
    Khyber Pass (Afghan, BYOW)
    Jano’s (Portuguese, BYOW, great meats)
Nil Bleu (Ethiopian, eat with your hands :)
    Odaki (sushi, decent for all-you-can-eat)

There’s also a fun lounge nearby, Buddhi Lounge, if MoR goes on past dinner. It has great teas and shisha, some snacks and alcohol.

where do you guys hold the meeting?

Not all that far is Café Campus, near the corner of Prince Arthur and St-Laurent (a little east in the pedestrian-only area).

Great food when I went there for a game, and they of course have alcohol (pitchers when I was there, even), and decent prices. I think it would be a good setting to pull up a few tables and discuss.

I would suggest Café Campus, around Prince-Arthur and St-Laurent (a little east down Prince-Arthur in the pedestrian area)

Great food, casual setting, alcohol, and decent prices. If not busy it’s easy to get some tables together and discuss over dinner and drinks…
